RMH and OCC Present HealthFest 2011
9/26/2011
Richland Memorial Hospital and Olney Central College invite the community out for a day of health and wellness at HealthFest 2011. Several area health and wellness organizations are present with free screenings and free informative materials to encourage healthy choices. The free screenings for the day include, hearing, blood pressure, blood glucose, hand strength and chiropractic evaluations among other free services. Fasting cholesterol screenings will be offered for $10 and PSA screenings for $20. This year participants can get their flu shot (adults only – age 19 and older) for $25 (Medicare can be billed).
The event takes place on Saturday, October 1 at the Olney Central College Gymnasium from 7:30 – 11:30am. A free continental breakfast will be served courtesy of State Senator Dale Righter and State Representative David Reis.
The day typically draws an average of 650 guests and over 60 exhibitors. There will be an ambulance present as well as a helicopter from Air Evac Lifeteam for guests to tour (weather permitting).
“Education is important in keeping people healthy and this is an opportunity for area residents to know who is available for assistance when needed,” states Laura Woods, Nurse Manager of Staff Development and Patient Education at Richland Memorial Hospital. “This will also give area businesses the opportunity to discuss what they offer in a relaxed atmosphere.”
In addition to the free health screenings and health information, several exhibitors will also have giveaways and door prizes. RMH doctors, Dr. Melanie Waller (Urology), Dr. Risë Hatten (OB/GYN), Dr. William Padgett (OB/GYN) and Dr. Paul Sutherland (General Surgery), will be available at several different booths for anyone who may have a health related question.
“A few of our physicians have participated in the past couple of years and had such a good time they wanted to be active in the event again this year,” comments Woods. “We have several new vendors this year who are making their first appearance, so even if you have attended in years past there is something new waiting for you at HealthFest 2011!”
The morning will also feature activities for children provided by several different organizations.
