James C. Leonard, MD

President and Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Jim Leonard is president and chief executive officer of the Illinois-based Carle Foundation and has served in that role since 2000. Carle is an integrated health system which includes hospitals, a large physician practice and health plan licensed in four states. During the last 15 years, Dr. Leonard has overseen significant growth of the organization consistently recognized for providing high quality care serving more than 850,000 inpatient and outpatient visits annually and covering more than 250,000 health plan members throughout the United States. Under his leadership, Carle is nationally recognized as one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals and a Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence by HealthGrades, has achieved Magnet ® nursing status as well as Health Care’s Most Wired™, and is ranked by U.S. News & World Report. Dr. Leonard previously served as Vice President of Medical Affairs for the Hospital and also served as Carle Clinic Associate Medical Director from 1997 to 1999. From 1984 to 1999, Dr. Leonard was a family practice physician.  He graduated from University of Illinois College of Medicine and is board certified in Family Practice with additional training in Sports Medicine and Addiction Medicine. He is past Chair and current member of the Illinois Hospital Association Board and serves on the Board of Trustees for the American Hospital Association.


John M. Snyder, MBA

Executive Vice President and System Chief Operating Officer

Chief Administrative Officer, Health Alliance Medical Plans

John Snyder is Executive Vice President and System Chief Operating Officer for Carle, which includes serving as Chief Administrative Officer of Health Alliance Medical Plans. Over the last decade, Mr. Snyder has successfully led key strategic projects including an enterprise-wide electronic medical record system, significant construction and expansion projects, market share growth, clinical service line expansions, physician recruiting and health plan growth. Mr. Snyder served in various capacities with Carle from 1988 to 1998, including Vice President of Support Services, Vice President of Operations and Senior Vice President of Operations.  He earned a Master of Business Administration from Eastern Illinois University and Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from St. Louis College of Pharmacy.   Mr. Snyder is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. In addition, he serves on the Board for Family Services and the Regional Health Resource Center and Community Blood Bank Services of Illinois and is an adjunct professor at University of Illinois in the College of Applied Health Sciences.


Matthew D. Gibb, MD, FACC, FACP, FSCAI

Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer 

Dr. Matt Gibb is executive vice president and chief medical officer for Carle and is administratively responsible for development of the Carle Illinois College of Medicine. Dr. Gibb is an interventional cardiologist who also maintains an active practice focusing on complex interventional procedures such as Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR). During his 23 years at Carle, he has served in many leadership positions including Head of Cardiology, Medical Director of the Heart and Vascular Institute, and Chair of the Carle Clinic Association Board of Governors. He served for 12 years in the US Navy Medical Corps prior to coming to Carle. Dr. Gibb received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and his medical degree from Saint Louis University. He is active with many national organizations, is a published author, and serves on the Board of Directors of the American Medical Group Association (AMGA).


Dennis P. Hesch, CPA

Executive Vice President and System Chief Financial Officer

Dennis Hesch serves as Executive Vice President and System Chief Financial Officer for Carle. A Certified Public Accountant, he has nearly 25 years of diverse healthcare experience that includes expertise in treasury, financing, risk management, strategic planning, revenue cycle management and systems deployment. Mr. Hesch joined Carle in 2006. Prior to that time he worked in Deloitte’s healthcare sector for approximately seven years and previously served as Chief Financial Officer for a large multispecialty medical group. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accountancy from Niagara University in Lewiston, NY.  Mr. Hesch is active in the community serving on various local and national boards and is treasurer for the local Boys and Girls Club.


Stephanie Beever, RN, MS

Executive Vice President and System Chief Strategy Officer

Stephanie Beever is Executive Vice President and System Chief Strategy Officer for Carle. She is responsible for leading the development of the system strategic vision, plan and development for Carle Health System, including Carle Physician Group, hospitals, Health Alliance Medical Plans, and the system subsidiaries. Prior to serving in this role, Ms. Beever served in various capacities including Senior Vice President, System Strategic Development; Vice President Accountabilities for Strategic Business and Regional Network Development, Surgical Services, Carle Neuroscience Institute, Diagnostic Services, Facilities, and Maternal Child Services. She earned a Master of Science degree from the University of Illinois, Chicago, and a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Millikin University. She has lead development programs including most recently, the Rural Alliance, a consortium of health systems partnered to provide exceptional care to rural communities; leadership of the system partnership strategies, up to and including integration of health systems and risk sharing partnerships between the health plan and independent health systems; and the development of a partnership between University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Carle to develop the Carle Illinois College of Medicine, focused at the intersection of engineering and medicine.


Pamela Bigler, RN, MS, NEA-BC

Senior Vice President of Patient Care and Chief Nursing Officer 

Pam Bigler serves as Senior Vice President of Patient Care and Chief Nursing Officer for Carle.  Having served in this role since 2005, she is responsible for nursing care throughout the organization including oversight of more than 1,500 nurses. Previously, Ms. Bigler served as Director of Nursing and Director of Critical Care Services at Carle and before joining the organization served in various nurse leadership positions. She received both Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in nursing from Governors State University. Ms. Bigler is NEA-BC certified and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. She is an adjunct professor at the University of Illinois and serves on the board of directors for Champaign County Christian Health Center.


Laurence J. Fallon, JD

Executive Vice President and Chief Legal and Human Resource Officer

L.J. Fallon serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Legal and Human Resources Officer for Carle.  In addition to serving as Carle’s chief legal and human resources officer, Mr. Fallon is responsible for the education, employee assistance, insurance management, risk management, contracts management and compliance and internal audit departments at Carle. Previously, Mr. Fallon served as Vice President and Chief Risk/Quality Officer, Vice President of Legal Affairs and Executive Director and General Counsel for Carle Risk Management Company. Prior to joining Carle, Mr. Fallon was an attorney in private practice.

He previously worked in healthcare professional liability insurance with the Chicago Hospital Risk Pooling Program.  He received Bachelor of Arts degrees in Spanish and Political Science from Marquette University and a Juris Doctor degree from Loyola University of Chicago and is licensed to practice law in the state of Illinois.  He is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management, the Illinois State Bar Association and the Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys.  He serves as an Adjunct Instructor in the College of Medicine at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is a member of the Audit and Compliance Committee of Catholic Health Initiatives in Denver, CO.
